ECO-IND – Project with Packaging Cluster

Goals:

  • Innovation

To improve the circularity of plastics in the packaging industry.

Achievements

  • Innovation

Polyethylene pellets developed by Ciclic suitable for food packaging.

  • Cycling

Reduction of up to 35% in the use of virgin plastic (according to applications)

  • Performance

Increase in the mechanical properties of the material, allowing lower thicknesses.

ECO-IND is an innovation project led by the Packaging Cluster of Catalonia. In addition to EIG, whose role is to provide advice on materials health and processes and circularity calculation, the following companies participate in the project:

GCR Group: European company with international presence, leader in the development of industrial compounds and ecological mineral masterbatches for the plastics industry.

Enplater: European company with international presence, leader in the development of industrial compounds and ecological mineral masterbatches for the plastics industry.

Ciclic  GCR’s business unit, has been in charge of re-introducing Enplater’s waste and creating a new pellet with different recycled content. In turn, Granic is added to the Enplater packaging. This mineral masterbatch, in addition to reducing the carbon footprint, improves the mechanical properties of the material.

In this way, Enplater recovers through Ciclic the losses of its production process and improves the performance of the material with the addition of Granic in the manufacture of new packaging.
